| My registration key is not sticking
when I register on Windows Vista. |
Answer
|
If you are registering Shutdown Addin on Windows
Vista you will need to run Outlook as an Administrator.
The reason is due of the new access control feature
of Vista which blocks Shutdown Addin from storing your
registration key to the windows registry when running
Outlook with non-administrative access. To work around
this issue follow these steps..
- Click My Computer
- Go to "C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Office\Office[10|11|12]\"
10 = Outlook 2002/XP
11 = Outlook 2003
12 = Outlook 2007
- Select "outlook.exe"
and right-click it to open the context menu.
- Select "Run as
Administrator."
- Once prompted
to register, enter your registration code.

|
| When I exit Outlook I still see
MULTIPLE OUTLOOK.EXE processes running. Why? |
Answer
|
Shutdown Addin only exits a single
instance of Outlook at a time. If you are running other
products that use their own instance of Outlook then
they will need to be closed separately. Shutdown Addin
only assists each individual process with its shutdown
sequence.
|
| When I exit Outlook I see the
shutdown progress get to 100% complete and then I get an
application error dialog. |
Answer
|
This is caused when Shutdown Addin
forces a termination (after safer attempts fail) of
the Outlook.exe process while some other addin or component
of Outlook was still performing its shutdown logic.
It's likely that you need to give Outlook more time
to shutdown before Shutdown Addin forces Outlook to
exit. Select Tools->Options from the Outlook file menu.
Then select the Shutdown tab. Set the time given to
Outlook for shutdown from 30 (default) to 120 seconds
and see if this helps.

| I've installed the addin on a
computer within my network domain that has more than one
user account on it. When I attempt to install Shutdown Addin
using one of these user accounts the addin doesn't work.
Why? |
Answer
|
This issue affects mainly installations
within a network domain. The account used to install
Shutdown Addin _must_ have administrative rights to
the computer. This is because the Shutdown Addin install
needs to store/write information to the local machine
hive of the registry and requires Administrative rights
to do so.
|
| I've installed the addin, rebooted
my computer several times, and when I start Outlook I don't
get a registration dialog box. |
Answer
|
Click Start->Run on the Windows taskbar, type the
following, and click ok:
regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Common Files\OutlookShutdown\OutlookShutdown.dll"
Now Restart Outlook.

successfully installed? |
Answer
|

your computer the Shutdown Addin's evaluation dialog

|
| Why do I need to reboot after

|

installation to make sure that all instances of Outlook
(OUTLOOK.EXE) are not running prior to the addin being
loaded and so that the install can complete its tasks.

| What versions can I use my registration
code for? |

for all v1.x releases. For example, if you've registered
v1.0 then your registration code will work for v1.2,
v1.3, etc ...
|
| Do I need to register the addin
to use it? |
Answer
|
No, you don't need to register the
addin to use it. However, at some point, YES, you need
to register it. The addin is designed to be trial-ware
with no time restrictions. The addin is provided to
you as a fully functional application that you can evaluate
for as long as you'd like. Once you've determine that
the addin is of value to you and has addressed your
shutdown issues then you must register the application.
Registration will remove that annoying evaluation dialog
that appears when the addin is loaded by Outlook.
|
| Why, even with the addin
loaded, does Outlook sometimes take a long time to shutdown? |
Answer
|
If Outlook is in the process of synchronizing
with Exchange Server or performing a send/receive then
the addin will take longer than usual to shutdown. Outlook
will not shutdown until the send/receive process is
100% complete or fails. Another installed addin may
also be taking a long time to shutdown.
|
| Are there any compatibility
or known issues with this product? |
Answer
|
Shutdown Addin is design specifically
for Microsoft Outlook and works with Outlook 2000, XP,
and 2003. It is not known to conflict with other
standard office applications (i.e Microsoft Office and
Microsoft Exchange). Shutdown Addin does however present
an issue with addins that perform logic when Outlook
exits (i.e. Microsoft Backup for Outlook). In these
instances Shutdown Addin will inadvertently terminate
Outlook when these addins are working accordingly and
appear to hold up the Outlook.exe process.
As a short-term solution I recommend
increasing the shutdown delay accordingly to provide
the needed time for these addins to function.
|
| Will Shutdown Addin harm
my .pst file? |
Answer
|
Shutdown Addin, as a last resort,
will force Outlook to exit by terminating the OUTLOOK.exe
process. This _may_ cause your .pst file to not close
correctly and thus will result in Outlook alerting you
that Outlook was not closed properly and will attempt
to repair your .pst. In general it will not harm the
.pst file.
|
| Is Shutdown Addin a fix or a solution
to this shutdown problem? |
Answer
|
|
Shutdown Addin is more of a fix than a solution since
it addresses issues with other addins that do no fully
release themselves from Outlook thus causing Outlook
experience shutdown issues.
